Next week, we begin a new Studio Retreat series exploring the people behind artists, songs and careers — who you need, what they contribute, and when you need them.
The first Retreat is all about the producer: what does a great producer actually do?
From Brian Eno and Trevor Horn to Quincy Jones, Dr. Dre and Calvin Harris, we’ll explore radically different approaches to creativity, artists and recording — and pull back the curtain on the intensely private creative world where great records are made.
In the following Retreats, we’ll expand outward to the artist’s team — creative collaborators, managers, lawyers, publishers, labels and other specialists — exploring when the right people become valuable as a career grows from independent to global scale.
And finally: when opportunities arrive, what’s the right deal at the right time? How do you make informed decisions — and what should you never give away?
