Recording Arts Concert Series, Toronto Edition Preview: The Bands

The next Recording Arts Concert Series, Toronto edition is upon us, and it is sure to be one for the books. Stop by The Rivoli on Tuesday, November 17th at 8:00pm; this night will bring together RAC students new and old, local artists from the Toronto music scene, and four industry representatives to see the four bands compete for the prize of studio time at the prestigious RAC studios. For this event, we have four talented acts that range from pop/soul to hard rock. An eclectic mix sonically, there is sure to be something for everyone.

Joob and The New Dynamic

The guitar, the hair, the stash - Joob Vakili takes the stage with his latest re-incarnation, Joob & the New Dynamic. With his mesh of blues-funk-rock, blistering riffs, and soaring solos, Joob channels guitar greats like Jimmy Page, Hendrix and Zappa. Flanked by the six-string bass phenomenon Fil Andjelkovic, and anchored by the cadences of Julian "Fatsound" Clark, this three-piece has a sound that's larger than life: sure to turn a few heads, blow some minds and melt a few faces. Holy Sexy Bastards

Hailing all the way from Valencia, Venezuela, garage rock freaks Holy Sexy Bastards are a power trio made up of Andrés Puche (Guitar/Vocals), Diego Barranco (Bass) and Brendan Soares (Drums/Vocals). Recently choosing Toronto as their new base, they’re ready to crank their amps up to 11 and fire up the crowd with their infectious blend of volcanic blues-rock riffs and strutting backbeats. Based out of Toronto, the dynamic ColinResponse has travelled internationally to share the stage with many popular artists. This charismatic front man hits the stage with a crew of 6, performing soul-infused pop music driven from the influences of artists like Michael Jackson & Bruno Mars. His mix of intimate, articulate lyrics, earworm melodies and upbeat dance music combine to make unforgettable performances that bring up the energy and take control of any audience. Starfall is a four piece alternative band based out of Mississauga, Ontario. The band formed in September of 2010, under the name "Blood of the Fallen". Combining heavy riffs, tight arrangements, angelic samples and powerful vocals, they create the perfect marriage of emotion and energy. The four industry representatives are:

Graham Rockingham

Graham is the Music Editor of the Hamilton Spectator, and the former city editor of the Vancouver Sun. He is a nine-year judge for the Polaris Music Prize and has covered the music industry in the media for over 15 years.

Bill Dillon

Bill is a renowned session guitarist and has laid down tracks for the likes of Joni Mitchell, Peter Gabriel, Iggy Pop and Sarah McLachlan and performed with everyone from Nigel Kennedy to Ronnie Hawkins.

Christine MacKay

Christine is a music marketing and social media specialist. The former Label Manager of Glassnote Records (Universal), she has also worked Warner Music and Sony Music in Artists & Repertoire and Marketing.

Rob Sanzo

Rob is a live and studio engineer and educator. He owned and operated the famed Signal to Noise Studio in Toronto and has recorded and/or produced hundreds of bands and artists including Sum 41 and Danko Jones.
