February 18 RAC Montreal Concert Showcase Performers Announced

Recording Arts Canada is pleased to announce Be Astronaut, King Karoshi, Brittany Kwasnik and Tofu Stravinsky will be performing at RAC's 4th Concert Showcase, at Sala Rossa on Tuesday, February 18th @ 7pm. Montreal is such a hotbed for alternative and indie music, and Recording Arts is proud to provide a stage for such talented young bands.

The event is free.  The show will be well attended by industry professionals, label reps, engineers, studio owners, and producers, so there will be plenty of networking opportunities for both the talent and the crew. The production will be staged by RAC students and mentors. It will be a great night of music, as are all of our Concert Showcases.

Here's a quick summary of these fine young recording and performing artists:

Be Astronaut, a very talented alternative progressive trio hailing from the Montreal area, has performed in Coca-Cola’s Street Party roster in 2012 with Sean Paul and Down With Webster. This talented band has also performed with Malajube, Mononc’ Serge, Plaster and many other great bands. Be Astronaut was the Hard Rock Battle of the Bands winners @ Hard Rock Café in Toronto, 2012. This is one really good indie band!

Be Astronaut band members are:
Guillaume Theroux, Guitars and Vocals; Ben Cardilli, Bass and Vocals; Pascal Beauregard, Drums

Since posting her first song on Youtube, Brittany Kwasnik signed a record deal with Montreal's Justin-Time Records, and has been performing frequently in cities across Canada and in the United States. CTV's Canada AM, CBC National News, and Newspapers across Canada have also featured her music and her inspirational story that sends a powerful message - to never give up on a dream.

After releasing her debut album, “I Don’t Know Me” with Justin-Time Records in May 2010, Kwasnik released a single, “Fine”, generating airplay in cities across North America.

At nineteen, Brittany just released her new album "The Covers & The Sheets" as an independent artist. After a successful CD Launch on June 2nd, 2013 at Le Belmont in Montreal, Kwasnik hit the road to play for new audiences, giving both acoustic and full-band live performances.

Band Members are: Brittany Kwasnik, Voice & Acoustic Guitar; Aaron Shepherd, Electric Guitar; Luc Celny, Drums; George Flores, Bass; Marc-Antoine Fortin, Keyboard

King Karoshi was formed in 2013, and have performed in Montreal and Ottawa. KK is currently recording their first EP. Band Members are: Patrick Dunphy - Vocals, Guitar, Keys; Rémi Denis - Guitar, Back-up Vocals; Antoine Poliquin - Bass, Back-up Vocals; Alexy Guerer - Drums, Back-up Vocals

We're expecting a hear and see a great set from this quartet. Talent, mood, feel, interesting lyrics ... KK has a lot going for them.

The music of Tofu Stravinsky is like walking through a glowing cityscape drinking good red wine from a coke can- the beginning to a perfect night. On stage and in the studio, the dynamic, soulful vocals of Sarah Orton are supported by the Metric-esque guitar stylings of Tyler Toews and Jon Perrys cunning synth hooks. The band is grounded by a dance-floor-filling rhythm section composed of Quillan Hanley on bass and Edward T on drums. Having shared the stage with two-time Juno award winner Alex Cuba, SLOAN, Hey Ocean! and The Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra, Tofu Stravinsky are no strangers to big stages and quickly making a name for themselves amongst some of Canada's finest musicians.

Smooth, crunchy, jazzy, and hip; their new release 'BTTRMLK' is a collection of songs blending passion and intellect, charm and style. Band Members are: Tyler Toews-Guitar, Vocals; Sarah Orton-Vocals; Jon Perry- Keys; Edward Annett-Drums; Pat McTaggert-Bass
